I want to study Architecture because I
am quite an artistic person and enjoy designing. The idea of designing with a
function and purpose is the perfect combination for me. You're literally able
to see your ideas materialise and come to life. I think that it is something
that transforms the lives around us and it is very fulfilling to know that. In
addition Architecture can make the clients dream and wish come true this for me
is a very satisfying way to help. As well as the fact that Architecture can really
solve a lot of problems, improve living conditions and reduce the cost of
living. As I have said in my personal statement I have come from a poor background
and when I visited I see that many living problems and conditions can be solved
with intelligent Architecture. The idea of being able to create something that
is inventive, affordable, eye catching but functional is a challenge that
intrigues me. Architecture is like the mark that you leave on the world whether
small or big. Architecture not just about buildings it’s a way of life
communicating ideas.
If you spend a lot of time somewhere
you want to make sure that it's a good place to be. I feel that with
Architecture there is the potential to change a home, venue, building into a
place that you're delighted to come to or have a landmark that turns heads and
intrigues people. My high school had a new build it really changed the
atmosphere and probably improved the standard of work at the school and this is
simply through smart Architecture. My dad studied housing in University and my
brother also studies architecture at university so buildings and architecture
runs down the family.
I want to come to Manchester School of
architecture firstly because it is one of the best universities in the country
for architecture. As I’m from Manchester and have gone to Trinity high school
and Xaverian College for the last 7 years which are just walking distance from
the campus; I have always looked at the university life there and seen it as a
place that I have aspired to be at. I feel like I have a good understanding of
the area and It would be a great place to study where I'd be able to reach my
full potential. What I could bring to this university is my enthusiasm and
hard-working attitude. As I think of myself as a bit of perfectionist I would
bring that attention to detail which is required and high quality of work.
Here is the rest of my portfolio which I
hope you enjoy.
My favourite architect is Zaha Hadid I like her futuristic concepts and she has designed some icredible pieces of work around the world such as the the Evelyn Grace Academy, the Spiral tower in Barcelona and the
sunrise tower in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia which I really like. Her work is an inspiration to me as she is one of the first architects that made me want to pursue a career path in Archtecture.
Emporio Armani store Manchester
I really like the Emporio Armani Store in Manchester which was built quite recently in 2010. It has a modern, edgy aesthetic style which is eye catching and is almost like a statement building which perfectly embodies the brand of Armani.
My first thoughts when I visited it were that it is very slick and has a glamourous look reflected by its's glass exterior and angular corners. It is located in deansgate Manchester and really stands out amongs surrounding retail stores. Also the extension of the building is another feature which i like of the triangular shaped glass entrance leading to the underground Australaisia Restaurant.
It has almost become a focal point in its surrounding area which is only overshadowed by the Hilton Hotel which is just walking distance from its location. Its modern exterior is fitting for the developing cityscape in Manchester. It's style may have been taken from the modernist design movement. The glass feature on the ground has some resemblance to the Musee Du louvre in Paris.
The Guggenheim Museum by Frank Ghery is a building which I would really like to visit in the future. I love the experimentation with the curvature of shape and some of its sharper angles. Also i enjoy Ghery's style and shiny metal finish to the building looks very contemporary.
